Coal Exploration with FALCON® AGG Home Case Studies Coal Exploration with FALCON® AGG Airborne Gravity Gradiometer and Magnetic NEW ZEALAND Coal Exploration with FALCON® AGG Fortescue Metals Group deployed FALCON® Airborne Gravity Gradiometry over Greymouth coalfields to map basement structure and guide coal exploration. The 1,181-line km survey revealed high-amplitude AGG anomalies linked to dense basement and intra-sedimentary volcanics. Low-amplitude zones correspond to synclines, indicating minimal deformation and thick coal seams. Interpretation identified fault-controlled depocenters and inversion structures. AGG data enabled detailed basin architecture analysis, aiding exploration targeting by highlighting structural lows optimal for coal accumulation.
