Mississippi Aquifer Mapping Home Case studies Mississippi Aquifer Mapping Airborne Electromagnetics USA Mississippi Aquifer Mapping The Mississippi Alluvial Plain faces chronic groundwater decline. Between 2018–2020, at Xcalibur Smart Mapping we collected >43,000 km of airborne electromagnetic (AEM), magnetic, and radiometric data over 140,000 km² to map shallow aquifers and geology critical for water resource management. Three survey phases used helicopter and fixed-wing AEM systems, combining high-resolution grids near Shellmound, Mississippi, with regional grids over the MAP. Results revealed correlations between radiometric data and surficial geology, mapped faults, paleochannels, and aquifer connectivity. The USGS derived elevation, thickness, and resistivity models, identifying connectivity between surface water and groundwater along major rivers.
