La seule production d\u2019\u00e9lectricit\u00e9 et de chaleur repr\u00e9sente jusqu\u2019\u00e0 41 % des \u00e9missions de CO\u2082 par an. Cette demande en plein essor constitue une pr\u00e9occupation croissante, tant sur le plan \u00e9conomique qu\u2019en termes d\u2019impact environnemental, notamment avec l\u2019augmentation des \u00e9missions de gaz \u00e0 effet de serre ces derni\u00e8res ann\u00e9es. Par cons\u00e9quent, le monde se tourne de plus en plus vers des solutions d\u2019\u00e9nergie g\u00e9othermique.<\/p>\n<p>L\u2019\u00e9nergie g\u00e9othermique est une source d\u2019\u00e9nergie propre et renouvelable qui peut fournir une \u00e9nergie de base fiable dans les pays et r\u00e9gions o\u00f9 la ressource est disponible.<\/p>\n<p>Bien que les ressources g\u00e9othermiques \u00e0 haute enthalpie (\u00e9nergie thermodynamique) se trouvent principalement dans des zones \u00e0 activit\u00e9 volcanique ou sismique (comme la Ceinture de Feu du Pacifique), des ressources \u00e0 basse enthalpie, significatives et exploitables, existent dans une grande vari\u00e9t\u00e9 de contextes g\u00e9ologiques.<\/p>\n<p>Le potentiel g\u00e9othermique mondial est immense ; pourtant, seul un petit pourcentage de ce potentiel est exploit\u00e9 aujourd\u2019hui, et de nombreuses r\u00e9gions g\u00e9othermiques importantes restent encore \u00e0 d\u00e9velopper.<\/p>\n<p>Les raisons de ce faible niveau d\u2019exploitation sont multiples :<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Les syst\u00e8mes g\u00e9othermiques et la g\u00e9ologie sont g\u00e9n\u00e9ralement tr\u00e8s complexes, et ils se trouvent souvent dans des terrains inaccessibles, avec des informations souterraines limit\u00e9es ou inexistantes. Explorer sans informations souterraines est risqu\u00e9.<\/li>\n<li>Le forage g\u00e9othermique est co\u00fbteux en raison de la profondeur des puits requise et des conditions g\u00e9ologiques g\u00e9n\u00e9ralement rencontr\u00e9es.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Cette combinaison de risques \u00e9lev\u00e9s et de co\u00fbts importants rend l\u2019exploration et le d\u00e9veloppement g\u00e9othermiques extr\u00eamement complexes. Bien que l\u2019\u00e9nergie g\u00e9othermique soit pr\u00e9sente dans une vari\u00e9t\u00e9 d\u2019environnements g\u00e9ologiques, la formation d\u2019une ressource g\u00e9othermique n\u00e9cessite
